Receipt Scanner
Scan Receipts · Track Expenses · Stay Organized
📅 Effective Date: July 27, 2026

Introduction

Receipt Scanner ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information is (and, just as importantly, is not) collected, used, or disclosed when you use Receipt Scanner.

Receipt Scanner is built local-first: your receipt photos, scanned text, and expense details are never sent to a server we operate — they stay on your device or in your own private iCloud account. Separately, we use Firebase (a Google service) to collect anonymous app-usage analytics and to remotely manage a small number of non-personal app settings; details on exactly what that involves are in the "Analytics & Remote Config" section below. By using the app, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

Definitions & Key Terms

  • App / Service: The Receipt Scanner iOS application, its home screen widget, and any related pages or content.
  • Developer / We / Us: Deep Baldha, the individual developer responsible for Receipt Scanner, contactable at deep.baldha.beetonz@gmail.com.
  • User / You: Any individual who downloads or uses the Receipt Scanner application.
  • Receipt Data: Photos of receipts, text extracted from them, and any details you add such as vendor, amount, category, date, client name, or notes.
  • Device: An Apple iPhone or iPad used to access the Service.

What Information Do We Collect?

Receipt Scanner is designed so that we, the developer, never receive or see your data. The app creates and stores the following information entirely on your device and, if you have iCloud enabled, in your own private iCloud account:

  • Receipt Photos: Images you capture with the built-in document scanner.
  • Scanned Text Data: Vendor name, total amount, and date extracted from your receipt photos using on-device text recognition.
  • Expense Details You Enter: Category, currency, billable/client information, payment status, return or warranty dates, and notes.
  • App Preferences: Settings such as your default currency, chosen categories, and App Lock preference.

🔒 We do not collect: your name, contacts, precise location, or microphone/health data. Your receipt photos, scanned text, and expense details are never transmitted anywhere by us — they stay on your device or in your own iCloud. Separately, anonymous app-usage analytics (not your receipt content) are sent to Firebase — see "Analytics & Remote Config" below.

On-Device Scanning & OCR

When you scan a receipt, Receipt Scanner uses Apple's on-device Vision framework to read the text and detect the vendor, amount, and date. This text recognition happens entirely on your device — your receipt photos and the text extracted from them are never uploaded to us or to any third-party OCR service.

Because recognition is automated, extracted amounts, dates, or vendor names may occasionally be incorrect. You can always review and edit any scanned field before saving.

Storage & iCloud Sync

Your receipts and expense data are stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. If you are signed in to iCloud, that same data is synced across your own devices using Apple's CloudKit private database.

  • Your data is stored in the private iCloud container tied to your Apple ID — not a database we control or can access.
  • Apple's handling of iCloud data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
  • You can turn iCloud sync on or off directly from within Receipt Scanner (Settings tab → iCloud), or at the system level via Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Apps Using iCloud.

Camera Permission

Receipt Scanner requests Camera access to let you photograph and scan paper receipts. Photos are used only to create a scanned receipt entry and are processed on your device.

You can revoke camera permission at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera → Receipt Scanner. Without it, you can still add expenses manually.

Face ID / Touch ID (App Lock)

If you turn on App Lock in Settings, Receipt Scanner uses Apple's LocalAuthentication framework to require Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode before showing your expense data.

  • Biometric authentication is handled entirely by iOS — your face or fingerprint data never leaves your device and is never accessible to us.
  • We only receive a yes/no result indicating whether authentication succeeded.
  • App Lock can be turned on or off at any time from within the app's Settings screen.

Notifications

If you set a return or warranty date on a receipt, Receipt Scanner can send you a local reminder a few days before that window closes.

  • These reminders are scheduled and delivered entirely on your device — no reminder content is sent to or through our servers.
  • You can manage or disable all notifications at any time in Settings → Notifications → Receipt Scanner.
  • We never send marketing, promotional, or advertising notifications.

Home Screen Widget

The Receipt Scanner widget displays a snapshot of your spending (for example, monthly totals) directly on your Home Screen. This summary is written to a shared container on your device (an App Group) so the widget can read it — this data never leaves your device.

Exporting & Sharing Your Data

Receipt Scanner lets you export your expenses as a CSV file, and (for premium users) a PDF report including receipt images. These files are generated entirely on your device.

When you export, iOS presents its standard share sheet so you choose where the file goes — for example Mail, Messages, Files, or a third-party app. We do not receive a copy of anything you export or share.

Purchases & In-App Purchases

Receipt Scanner is a paid app, available for a one-time purchase of $0.99 USD (or the local equivalent) on the App Store. It also offers an optional Premium subscription (monthly or yearly) that unlocks features like PDF export. The app purchase and the subscription are processed by Apple's In-App Purchase system, governed by Apple's Media Services Terms. We never see or store your payment card details — Apple handles billing directly.

We use RevenueCat, a subscription management platform, to verify purchase receipts with Apple and keep track of whether your Premium subscription is active. RevenueCat receives your App Store transaction data (product purchased, price, currency, transaction ID) and a random, non-identifying app-specific device identifier — it does not receive your receipt photos, expense data, name, or payment card details. Its handling of this data is governed by RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.

Analytics & Remote Config

Receipt Scanner uses Firebase (a Google service) for two purposes. Neither one involves your receipt photos, scanned text, vendor names, amounts, notes, or any other expense content — that data is never sent to Firebase or to us.

  • Firebase Analytics: Collects anonymous, aggregated usage data — which screens you open, which features you use (e.g. scanning, exporting, viewing analytics), app crashes, device model, and iOS version. We also log purchase-funnel events (for example, that a paywall was shown, a purchase started, succeeded, or was cancelled, and which subscription plan/price/currency was involved) so we can understand how the app is used and improve it. Firebase Analytics does not receive your receipt content, and we do not use it for advertising or cross-app tracking.
  • Firebase Remote Config: Downloads a small set of non-personal configuration values (for example, how many free scans the app allows per month) so we can adjust them without shipping a new app version. This is a one-way download of settings — no data about you or your device is required to receive it beyond a basic app request.

Firebase's handling of this data is governed by Firebase's Privacy and Security Policy and Google's own Privacy Policy.

🔒 You can limit analytics collection generally via Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements on your device, and you can always contact us to request deletion of any Firebase Analytics data associated with your device.

Third-Party Services

Receipt Scanner uses the following third-party components:

  • Apple CloudKit: Optional iCloud sync of your data across your own devices. Apple Privacy →
  • Apple In-App Purchase (StoreKit): Processes app purchases and Premium subscription payments. Apple Media Services Terms →
  • RevenueCat: Verifies purchase receipts and tracks subscription status — see "Purchases & In-App Purchases" above. RevenueCat Privacy →
  • Firebase Analytics & Remote Config (Google): Anonymous usage analytics and remote app configuration — see "Analytics & Remote Config" above. Firebase Privacy →
  • Lottie (airbnb/lottie-ios): An open-source animation library used only to render on-screen animations. It does not collect or transmit any data.

⚠️ Receipt Scanner contains no advertisements and no ad-tracking SDKs of any kind. Firebase Analytics is used only for app-usage insight and purchase tracking, never for ads.

How We Use Your Information

Your receipt and expense data is never sent to us, and on your device is used exclusively to:

  • Display your receipts, expenses, and spending analytics within the app.
  • Sync your data across your own devices via iCloud, if enabled.
  • Populate the Home Screen widget with a spending snapshot.
  • Generate the CSV/PDF reports you choose to export.
  • Remind you of upcoming return or warranty windows, if you set them.

Separately, the anonymous usage and purchase-event data described in "Analytics & Remote Config" is used to understand how the app is used, fix bugs, and decide which features to improve — never to identify you personally.

Sharing Your Information

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal or expense data with any third party, and we have no ability to do so — your receipt content simply never reaches us.

The only ways your data leaves your device are: iCloud sync to your own account, an export/share action you initiate, or the anonymous analytics/purchase-event data sent to Firebase as described above (which never includes your receipt content).

Data Retention & Deletion

Your receipts and expense data remain on your device (and in your private iCloud, if enabled) for as long as you keep them in the app.

  • Deleting a receipt in the app removes it from your device and, on next sync, from iCloud.
  • Deleting the app removes all locally stored data. If iCloud sync was enabled, you can also remove the data from iCloud via Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Storage.

Since we never receive your receipt content, there is nothing for us to retain or delete on our end. Anonymous Firebase Analytics data is retained according to Google's default Firebase retention settings and is not linked to your receipts or personal identity.

Security

Your data benefits from Apple's platform-level protections, including on-device encryption and, if App Lock is enabled, biometric or passcode authentication before the app's content is shown. Any iCloud sync traffic is encrypted in transit and at rest by Apple.

While we rely on these industry-standard safeguards, no system is entirely foolproof. We encourage you to keep your device's software up to date.

Children’s Privacy

Receipt Scanner is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, regardless of age — your receipt content never reaches us, and the anonymous Firebase Analytics data described above is not linked to any individual's identity. We comply with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.

Your Privacy Rights (GDPR / CCPA)

Because all of your Receipt Scanner data lives on your device and, optionally, in your own private iCloud account, you are always in direct control of it:

  • Right to Access: Open the app at any time to view everything stored about your receipts and expenses.
  • Right to Deletion: Delete individual receipts, or delete the app to remove all local data. For Firebase Analytics data, contact us and we'll submit a deletion request to Firebase on your behalf.
  • Right to Portability: Use the built-in CSV/PDF export to take a copy of your data with you.
  • Right to Opt-Out: You can limit analytics collection via your device's Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements, or by contacting us.
  • CCPA: We do not sell personal information. Our receipt/expense data is never collected by us to begin with, and Firebase Analytics data is anonymous and not used for cross-context behavioral advertising.

If you have any questions about your rights, contact us at the email below.

Governing Law

This Privacy Policy is governed by applicable laws worldwide. As this app is distributed globally through the Apple App Store, we aim to comply with applicable privacy regulations including GDPR (EU), CCPA (California, USA), and India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDPA).

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the app or applicable laws. The “Effective Date” at the top of this page will be updated accordingly.

Continued use of Receipt Scanner after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised Privacy Policy.
